Star Trek

I know this has nothing to do with being an executive, but I'm compelled to write this post since the Star Trek series did have a vision of a better world.

I got to see a premiere showing of the new Star Trek movie by J.J. Abrams. It seems to have more combat and action. While there were those elements in Star Trek and the series, I think overall the series was meant to show how humanity can achieve greatness. I didn't really see that in this movie. While the characters were animated, I don't think they were representative of The Original Series. The made the younger version of the TOS characters seem way too immature to actually have been the same person.

This movie was all about fighting and that didn't impress me much. There were a few scenes that were impressive though especially as an idea. When the Enterprise was about to get out of warp, Captain Pike decided to call 'red alert' on behalf of Kirk's advice.

The movie was amazing, and if it wasn't, I would say that the time paradox stuff ruined the movie, but because the graphics and story was good, I won't. The temporal cold wars took Enterprise (the series) into a place where it had a hard time getting out of. It's great that the younger crowd who like more Hollywood type films will like this movie. Star Trek fans may like it too, but not as much. Any true Star Trek fan will be somewhat critical with this movie.

Another great scene is in the beginning when Acting Captain Kirk (the father) rammed the ship into the enemy ship. That showed how humanity can be courageous and do what's right sometimes. I didn't like how there were so many shuttle-crafts flying away when the ship they were evacuating had only one exit bay as shown when the actual Captain of the first ship in the movie (Enterprise?), went over to the enemy ship.

Another thing that I didn't like is how the Enterprise was able to get away from the red matter. Truthfully, if red matter could suck the whole Romulan ship in, it should have sucked the little enterprise in all the way, and probably faster since it had less mass.

And I mean come on, the earth and all of its inhabitants are being attacked, and the human race will nearly be extinct. That's just like First Contact or any other movie where the earth is close to possible annihilation. Come on, a better plot could've been devised. Maybe it could've been more conspiratory. Why didn't the Romulans look like the Romulans?
